Kathryn Doley

Strings Team Leader

Kathryn has worked for RMT for nearly 15 years as an Associate Teacher, having started her own musical journey on the violin and piano in the earlier council run Music Service.  She has been a member of both the Recorder & Music Makers team and the Strings Team in that time.   Kathryn passionately believes that every child should have the opportunity to find the right instrument for them and that this journey often begins in primary school.  She has taught the Wider Opportunities String programme in all the schools where we are lucky enough to offer it.  She has seen the benefits of this type of engagement when those pupils who began in a group of 30, find their way into the school orchestra where they can experience the joy of making music with others.   She has set up and run orchestras in three of the primary schools where she has taught and delights in seeing those pupils now playing across the range of RMT Ensembles and beyond.

As Strings Team Leader, Kathryn hopes to inspire more young teachers to embrace the Wider Opportunities programme and to enable everyone in the team to benefit from sharing ideas and best practice so that we can continue to deliver exciting lessons and workshops to inspire the young musicians of the future.
