musictherapy@richmondmusictrust.org.ukAfter graduating in 2012 with a BA in Music Composition from the University of Sussex (BIMM), Lockie entered a career away from music whilst simultaneously pursuing various musical projects, including playing in bands and producing his and other artists work.
With a deep interest in people and the subject of psychology, some volunteering with a London-based music charity in 2019 inspired him to train as a music therapist, graduating with an MA in Muic Therapy from the University of the West of England in 2024.
Lockie has worked with ASD, PMLD and SEN clients in a variety of settings including schools and care homes, as well as elderly clients suffering from the effects of dementia. He has also worked with complex mental health needs with clients in an addiction recovery service, namely drug and alcohol misuse. He passionately believes in music’s power to facilitate self-expression and communication, and as a means to promote community values and inclusivity. Through the use of musical improvisation he encourages creativity and play in his clinical work with clients.
Lockie is a guitar player first and foremost, but also plays the piano and loves using percussion and the voice in his work.
